Dhikr means rememberance and is achieved through recitation of the Divine Names or Divine phrases. Its effect is similar to the recitation of mantras, used in the Hindu and Bhuddist traditions.

The word “insan” is the Arabic word for “human” and carries in its literal translation the meaning “the one who has forgotten”.
Dhikr helps us humans to remember the Divine qualities

In turning to the Divine in dhikr, the ever-diving-into Him, one  steps out of indifference and moves – as the Sufis say – into one’s heart.

In Sufism the heart is considered as a mirror and dhikr serves to polish this mirror, allowing it to radiate in its brilliance in order to reflect the Divine mystery.
